Who didnâ??t see Who Killed the Electric Car and walk out of the theater ready to trade their gas guzzler in for a greener alternative? The film was motivating but also generated a buzz leading to discussions about what it really takes to go green.
Maybe youâ??ve recently modded your living room lamp with a compact fluorescent or maybe you even strapped on your helmet and spandex for bike-to-work day. Well you arenâ??t the only one feeling greenbitious; companies like Bandago are popping up all over the place to help provide environment friendly modes of mass transportation. Bandago is a non-profit that helps offset carbon dioxide emissions through its van rental business. It is approaching the market from an interesting angle, creating a brand association that links environmental responsibility with the indie musicians who rent their fleet of vans for US and Canadian tours.
Although the vans arenâ??t outfitted with Bubb Rubbâ??s Whistle Tip they do have some pretty sweet features like wireless internet and video game systems hooked to LCD screens. Yes itâ??s green, but Bandago isnâ??t letting the stereotype interfere with their image; their state of the art fleet is a far cry from Scoobie and Shaggyâ??s Mystery Machine.
Bandago is another clear example of how change is done. Theyâ??re helping us take small steps in the right direction by adopting technology pragmatically. DriveNeutral helps them calculate their climate footprint and then purchase credits to neutralize their fleetâ??s greenhouse gases. They'll leave the pollution to megastars like Dave Matthews Band. The money gets funneled to energy efficiency, renewable energy, agricultural sequestration and reforestation projects. Theyâ??re not the first to propose this idea, but are definitely leading the way.
