The La Brea Takeover

So what, Pitchfork didn't want to team up with Microsoft's new Zune digital media device/service (check here if you don't know what we're talking about). The Redmond-based giant has "cool guys" on their side now instead of nerdy music lovers to help lure consumers away from industry leading iPod/iTunes.

Running from October 28- November 14, Zune and three of the most influential style outposts in Los Angeles have teamed up to auction limited edition Zune players under the name "La Brea Takeover" in honor of the street where Undefeated, Union, and Stussy all have shops. With only six players to be auctions (two from each shop) via the Undefeated website, there will be no lines down the block a la Entourage this time, though demand is sure to be high thanks to custom screenprinting on the exterior of the players and original content loaded up on the inside.

Whether Zune catches on or flops hard, collaborations of this sort between high tech companies and street-level brands are only intensifying (see Boost Mobile's work with NYC's Retail Mafia here) and is sure to create far more buzz in the blogosphere than this humbler EMERGE posting. Expect to see these gizmos up on Ebay alongside some limited edition Nikes sometime soon. If Zune fails, they'll be worth at least three times as much down the line...
