Acclaimed Los Angeles photographer Estevan Oriol is the subject of a forthcoming DVD documentary created by Triplewide and Upper Playground and it's affiliated Fifty24SF gallery.

Oriol, a member of the infamous Soul Assassins crew founded by Cypress Hill has long been renowned for his striking black and white photography of gang life in Los Angeles as well as his photographs of rap stars like 50 Cent getting traditional LA gang tattoos from fellow Soul Assassin Mister Cartoon. What many folks don't realize is that Oriol, who is completely self taught, has become an in demand fashion photographer and music video director, helming clips for his fellow Soul Assassins as well as megastar acts like Blink-182, for whom he shot several clips.

Now, comes the The Run Up, a documentary exploring Oriol's entry into photography and how he's brought his unique perspective to bear on the medium itself. He sums up his attitude thusly "Cheap photos aren't good and good photos aren't cheap."

Look for the DVD release in September 2006.
