Bostonians David Day and Amy Grill have been spending the bulk of their free time over the past year or two working hard on shooting a feature length documentary about electronic music called Speaking In Code-Adventures In The New Electronic Underground alongside respected journalist/DJ/producer Phillip Sherburne.
Filmed on location in Montreal, New York, Miami, Berlin, Frankfurt, and Koln, the film documents the emergence of minimal techno as a major artistic force that has grown from super-obscure subgenre to the next big thing in dance music. Filming significant festivals such as M3 and Mutek as well as storied nightclubs including Panoramabar and Robert Johnson, Director Grill is seeking to reveal not just the meaning behind the music but shed some light on the often anonymous DJs and artists making this primarily vinyl-only music.
With half the film shot and editing already under way, Square Productions are currently working to secure funding to finish what has always been a labor of love for these true techno evangelists.
